Core Scientific secures $600M in credit facilities, releasing $300M in restricted cash to enhance financial flexibility amid HPC-focused expansion.

Core Scientific, Inc. (NASDAQ: CORZ) has secured $600 million in senior secured credit facilities, including a $100 million revolving credit line and a $500 million letter of credit facility. The move, announced on August 27, 2026, is designed to improve the company’s financial flexibility as it pivots toward high-density colocation (HDC) and AI workloads.

The new credit facilities will release approximately $300 million in restricted cash, according to CFO Jim Nygaard, enabling Core Scientific to optimize its capital efficiency. Borrowings on the revolving credit facility carry a three-year maturity and interest rates tied to the Adjusted Term Secured Overnight Financing Rate (SOFR) plus 1.75%, or an alternate base rate plus 0.75%. Letters of credit will incur an annual fee of 1.75%, alongside a 0.125% fronting fee.

Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, and TD Securities are key arrangers and bookrunners for the deal, with JPMorgan serving as the administrative and collateral agent. The obligations under the facilities are secured by a first-priority lien on Core Scientific’s and its subsidiaries’ assets, ensuring robust backing for the financing.

This liquidity boost comes as the company continues to transition from bitcoin mining to high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure. Core Scientific has been doubling down on HDC services, catering to AI and other compute-intensive workloads. The strategy marks a significant shift from its earlier focus on cryptocurrency mining, which left the firm vulnerable to market volatility and contributed to its Chapter 11 filing in December 2022. Core Scientific emerged from bankruptcy in January 2024 with a reorganized balance sheet.

The timing of this financing aligns with Core Scientific’s broader expansion efforts. The company recently announced plans to scale its Muskogee, Oklahoma campus to 1.5 GW and is working on a similar expansion in Pecos, Texas. Additionally, its infrastructure partnership with AMD, unveiled in late July, aims to secure up to 2.5 GW of data center capacity for HPC and AI use cases.

Despite these developments, Core Scientific’s stock (CORZ) has faced headwinds, falling 3.41% over the past 24 hours to $17.42 as of August 27. The broader market for digital infrastructure and crypto-related stocks remains challenging, with investors cautious amid ongoing macroeconomic uncertainty.

This $600 million financing underscores Core Scientific’s commitment to positioning itself as a leading player in digital infrastructure for AI and HPC. The release of $300 million in restricted cash offers immediate flexibility, while the company’s long-term strategy reflects an industry-wide pivot toward compute-heavy applications beyond cryptocurrency mining.
