NVIDIA’s Q2 FY27 earnings report shows $96B in revenue, driving demand across the semiconductor sector and ETFs like SMH.

NVIDIA (NVDA) delivered a blowout earnings report for Q2 FY27, posting $96.2 billion in revenue—a 106% year-over-year increase—while guiding for $108 billion in Q3 revenue. The results underscore the surging demand for AI chips and data center infrastructure, key drivers for the semiconductor sector and ETFs like VanEck’s Semiconductor ETF (SMH).

Data Center revenue soared by 117% year-over-year to $89 billion, supported by hyperscale cloud providers and a sharp rise in AI-related investments. NVIDIA’s Blackwell Ultra infrastructure and its ACIE reporting segment—covering enterprise AI, cloud-focused AI providers, and sovereign AI programs—contributed significantly. Hyperscale revenue alone reached $49 billion, up 13% sequentially, while ACIE grew 25% quarter-over-quarter to $40 billion. These figures solidify NVIDIA’s position as the backbone of AI compute demand.

The market reaction has been strong. As of September 3, 2026, NVIDIA shares are trading at $224.41, up 3.19% in the last 24 hours. The company now boasts a staggering $5.45 trillion market cap, positioning it as a key bellwether for the broader semiconductor industry.

For SMH, which has a 22.82% weighting in NVIDIA as of August 31, 2026, this earnings report is a direct catalyst. Demand for semiconductors remains robust, and NVIDIA’s guidance for 70% fiscal 2028 revenue growth highlights the sector’s long-term potential. ETFs like SMH and SMHX, heavily exposed to NVIDIA, are likely to see increased investor interest as a result.

However, the supply chain remains a bottleneck. NVIDIA noted that its fiscal 2028 growth will be “supply-constrained,” with expanded deployments of AI infrastructure—including AWS GPU rollouts—limited by production capacity. Additionally, the company has excluded China from its Q3 Data Center compute revenue assumptions, a move likely influenced by U.S. export controls and geopolitical risks.

Even so, the broader semiconductor sector appears to be capitalizing on AI’s rapid adoption. AI-native customers and hyperscalers are accelerating CapEx investments in high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and custom GPUs, while edge computing—another growth area for NVIDIA—saw revenue rise 27% year-over-year.

For traders and investors, the key takeaway is the strength of NVIDIA’s execution in a high-demand scenario. SMH, as a proxy for semiconductor growth, could see continued upside if NVIDIA’s guidance holds and AI infrastructure spending persists. With Q3 guidance at $108 billion, NVIDIA’s next earnings report will be critical for confirming whether this trajectory is sustainable.
